Why Lady Bird loves SPANX

Control Garments are a very personal thing. They are often that little touch that gives you the confidence to step out and hold your head high. Dressing 'Up' for that special event can often be a daunting activity! More often than not, when we 'Dress up' we will be in either an outfit that we have never worn before or very rarely. Straight away this makes us aware of just how we might look.........

That bump or lump or wobbling bit that we usually don't let invade our every thought, suddenly seems like it is standing out like a beacon! We all know how Beautiful a smile can be..... But it is hard to smile through anxious thoughts of "I just know somebody will ask if I’m pregnant again" " I wish I had stuck to that diet! I wont eat a thing tonight at the party!" " Oh my God … jiggles when I walk!"

There are MANY products out there on the market to help with these issues, but some are so firm and tight that the only way you are going to finish that outfit off with a smile is through gritted teeth. I personally am past the age where I will grit my teeth for fashion!

Another issue often encountered with a control brief is the dreaded roll down! There are a few reasons this can happen. One, the garment is either a bad design or not suited to your body shape or you bought a size smaller thinking it will make you even firmer. Sadly, too tight and it is guaranteed to roll down!

SPANX is unique in its length. The product in both of the Hi-waisted styles  are long and stretchy enough to come up under your bra band, even on some of the longest torsos that I have had it successfully fit. By tucking under your bra band you eliminate that transition line that you can often get from the end of one undergarment to the start of another. You will get a streamline profile all the way to your bra!

The SPANX line in this range of control garments a so soft that you will be able to sit and enjoy your dinner. Breathing and dancing are also on the list of activities you can enjoy, along with that handy bit of being able to put your own shoes on or pick something up of the floor! You might think I am being over the top, and there are others of you nodding and laughing, completely understanding, about now. Hands up anybody who has ever left the house smiling through gritted teeth and ended up heading to the loo to rip off that control brief and stuff it in their hand bag not long after they arrive!

SPANX must be good a woman invented them!

Sara Blakely (born February 21, 1971) is an American businesswoman and founder of Spanx, a multi-million dollar undergarment company.[2] She is the world's youngest self-made female billionaire. In 2012, she was named in Time 100, an annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world assembled by Time.[3]

After her short stint at Disney, Blakely accepted a job with Danka, an office supply company, where she sold fax machines door-to-door.[6][8] She was quite successful in sales and was promoted to national sales trainer at the age of 25.[6] Having been forced to wear pantyhose in the hot Florida climate, Blakeley disliked the appearance of the seamed foot while wearing open-toed shoes but liked the fact that the control-top eliminated panty lines and made the body appear firmer.[6] She experimented by cutting off the feet of her pantyhose while wearing them under a new pair of slacks; unfortunately the experiment was not successful as the pantyhose continuously rolled up her legs[6] (the original pants are now enshrined at Spanx headquarters).[5]

At age 27, she moved to Atlanta, and while still working at Danka, spent the next two years and her entire $5,000 in savings researching hosiery patents and visiting craft stores to find the right material for her product. Eventually coming upon a solution, she wrote her own patent from a Barnes & Noble textbook and incorporated her company under the name Spanx.[6] Turned away by numerous mills who did not see the value of her idea, she eventually found a hosiery factory in Asheboro, North Carolina, which was willing to make her product.[6] She successfully pitched her idea to Neiman-Marcus by personally taking the buyer to the ladies restroom to show her the benefits of Spanx in person.[9] Bloomingdales, Saks, and Bergdorf Goodman soon followed.[6] She handled all aspects of the business from marketing, logistics, and product positioning (preferring that Spanx be sold alongside shoes rather than in hosiery).[6] In November 2000, Oprah Winfrey named Spanx her favorite product of the year and sales took off; soon after Blakely resigned from Danka.[6] Spanx had $4 million in sales in its first year and $10 million in sales in its second year.[6] In 2001, she signed a contract with QVC, the home shopping channel,[6] where she sold 8,000 pairs in the first six minutes.[5]
